The field guide and its 1,000 entries
The field guide tracks everything you pick up, and its achievements run to 1,000 entries plus a full completion, so here is what fills it fastest.
Field guide achievements step at 300, 500 and 1,000 entries, and the final one needs the whole guide, which makes foraging and fishing the cheapest entries per hour.
The field guide is the game's collection log, and it is the reason "just sell everything" is bad advice. Every new item you pick up adds an entry, and the entries are permanent.
The three entry milestones
| Entries | Achievement | Global rate |
|---|---|---|
| 300 | Field Guide Greenhorn | 59.0% |
| 500 | Field Guide Genius | 31.3% |
| 1,000 | Field Guide Guru | 3.2% |
| All entries | Field Guide Grandmaster | 0.9% |
300 arrives on its own if you play normally. 500 takes intent. 1,000 is a project, and completing the guide is one of the four rarest achievements in the game.
What fills it fastest
The guide logs what you encounter, so the cheap entries are the ones with the most variety per hour:
- Foraging. Wild plants, mushrooms and grasses are everywhere and each species is an entry.
- Fishing. Every species counts, and the waterfall spot produces variety.
- Mining. Ores, shards and stone variants stack up fast in the quarry.
- Cooking. Each dish is its own entry; the kitchen is an entry factory once it runs.
- Animals and products. Eggs, milk, feathers, and the animals themselves.
The expensive tail is the opposite: rare fish, seasonal crops, and the items you only see once.
Brands are part of the guide
Patch 1.30 lets you rename a brand from the field guide, and it raised the name limit to 8 characters. Patch 1.08 added an item icon before the name for anything with a custom brand, so branded goods are now identifiable at a glance in a list.
That combination turns the guide into a shop window: grow a crop, brand it, ship it under your own name.

Logging discipline that pays
- Pick up every new item once before selling it.
- Cook one of each fish before shipping the rest.
- Keep a "new" pile in a chest so you do not accidentally ship an unlogged item.
- Check the guide weekly; the count is the only progress bar that never resets.
Why it matters beyond the achievement
The guide is how the game tells you what exists. If you are missing a crop, a fish or a material for a recipe, the gap in the guide is the hint. The crafting page and the money page both lean on it: recipes need specific materials, and branded goods need a logged item to sell well.
