Beginner guide: your first week in Kagatsu
Your first week in Kagatsu: what to plant on Spring 1, when each tool unlocks, which requests pay early, and the night rule you must not break.
Plant turnips on day one, talk to every villager you pass, file the night rule as non-negotiable, and spend your first money on seeds and a bag upgrade before furniture.
Spring of Year 1 is a tutorial wearing a farming sim's clothes. The game walks you through tilling, planting and harvesting in the first week, then hands you a village full of people who want things. The order below keeps you ahead of it.
Day one to day three
- Finish the tutorial harvest. Spring 5 is the turnip harvest tutorial. Do not fence your field in before it — Patch 1.04 fixed a bug where surrounding the field blocked the event, but the lesson stands: leave yourself a way in.
- Walk the village and talk to everyone once. First conversations seed requests. Requests pay money and affection, and affection is what later unlocks birthday presents.
- Plant the cheap seed, not the pretty one. Early income is volume, not value. Turnips and other quick spring crops keep cash moving while you save for tool upgrades.
- Buy the bag upgrade before furniture. Inventory space is the bottleneck in week one; furniture can wait until the Furniture Catalog exists for you.
The Spring 7 appointment
Patch 1.04 fixed an event on Spring 7, Year 1 at 7:00 PM that could fail to trigger. Treat that evening as booked: be in the village, not halfway up the mountain. If an evening event seems to be missing on an older build, that is the known cause.

What to spend money on, in order
| Priority | Purchase | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Seeds you can replant immediately | Turns cash into more cash |
| 2 | Bag upgrade | Removes the constant trip home |
| 3 | Tool upgrades at the anvil | Range first, then speed |
| 4 | A second livestock pen | Only after the first pen is upgraded |
| 5 | Furniture | Cosmetic until the catalog arrives |
Livestock pens have an upgrade order quirk: Patch 1.05 fixed a bug where upgrading the second pen before the first made animals vanish. Upgrade the first pen first and you never meet it.
The three rules, as they apply to week one
The store page states them plainly: don't talk to strangers, don't leave the village, don't go out at night. In week one the third one is the only one you can accidentally break, usually by staying out to finish a fishing session. The full picture, including the eight rules the story later has you unravel, is on the village rules page.
What "ahead of schedule" looks like
By the end of Spring you want: the first tool range upgrade, one barn animal, the hokora restored at least one stage, and a stash of seeds for Autumn. Everything else — permits, the Seeder, the bathroom set — is gated behind story beats or seasons, and rushing them is not possible.
Magatama are the exception worth chasing early. Every offering at the crossroads hokora pushes its restoration stage and opens skills, and the magatama page lists what each stage buys. The farming page covers the field mechanics in more detail once you are past the tutorial.
