Village in the Sunshine mode
The peaceful mode is called Village in the Sunshine: no night attacks, a different arrival in Nago, and its own prerequisites for the late-game unlocks.
Village in the Sunshine is the mode without the horror pressure: the birthday event needs Year 2 and Nago moved into the village, and Tobari's hokora request is replaced by Nago's arrival.
Village in the Sunshine is the mode without the night. It is not a difficulty slider — it changes two unlock paths, one character's arrival and which achievements are reachable.
What changes
| Feature | Village in the Shade | Village in the Sunshine |
|---|---|---|
| Night attacks | Yes | No |
| Rule pressure | Full | Relaxed |
| Hokora request | Tobari asks you to restore it | Follows Nago moving in |
| Birthday event gate | Year 2 + one day after the main scenario | Year 2 + one day after Nago moves in |
| Extra farmland gate | Tobari's hokora request plus all farmland bought | Nago in residence plus all farmland bought |
| Achievements | All 52 are written for Shade mode | Mode-specific ones do not tick |
That last row is the one people get wrong. Every achievement description in the list is phrased "in Village in the Shade Mode", so a Sunshine run is a comfortable farm, not a completion run.
Nago is the mode's hinge
In Sunshine mode, Nago moves into the village, and several late unlocks hang off that arrival rather than off Tobari's request. If a letter about the birthday event or extra farmland is not arriving, check which mode you are in before you assume a bug.
Patch 1.30's own wording is precise about it: the birthday event needs Year 2 and at least one day after Nago moves into the village on the Sunshine path.
Who should pick it
- You want the farming, cooking, fishing and decorating without the horror schedule.
- You are playing with someone who does not want jump scares.
- You want to learn the systems before committing to a Shade run.
Who should not: anyone chasing the 52 achievements, or anyone who wants the story the game is named after.
Switching between them
The two modes are separate saves. Language is per save file, and so is mode, which means starting Sunshine does not cost you a Shade file. Keep them in different slots.
A Sunshine first week
- Plant the same spring crops; nothing about farming changes.
- Talk to everyone, accept requests, push affection early — the birthday event still exists.
- Restore the hokora when Nago's route opens it; the Seeder still needs stage three.
- Buy a goat as soon as you can, to open the Fluffy Cow and Spotted Goat tier.
- Reach Autumn of Year 1 for Silkies and Mallards.
The beginner guide works for both modes; the unlock list shows both prerequisite columns side by side.
Next
- Village rules and the night — what you are opting out of.
- Unlock list — both mode prerequisites in one table.
- Achievements — why a Sunshine run will not complete them.
