Festivals and the season calendar

The summer festival, cherry-blossom viewing, badminton, sweet potato roasting and mochi, plus what each season unlocks across your first year in Kagatsu.

Quick answer

Season gates the good stuff: Autumn of Year 1 is when Silkie Chickens and Mallards appear at Chinana's stall, and the summer festival has its own purchase counter for an achievement.

The calendar is the real progression system. Seasons gate animals, festivals gate achievements, and one specific Autumn is the door to half the livestock list.

The season gates that matter

GateWhat it opensPatch
Autumn of Year 1Silkie Chickens and Mallards at Chinana's stall1.20
Autumn of Year 1 + one furniture purchaseThe Furniture Catalog1.20

Autumn of Year 1 is the single most valuable date on the calendar. If you are close to it, do not spend your money on anything decorative — bank it for animals.

Holidays and the day after

Patch 1.04 fixed an issue where you could become unable to leave home the day after a holiday (Festival or Competition). If you are on an older build and wake up stuck indoors, that is the bug, not a rule.

Planning a season in four lines

  1. Spring: plant, talk, bank seed money; cherry-blossom viewing raises affection cheaply.
  2. Summer: the festival purchase counter — ten buys, one achievement.
  3. Autumn: livestock tier two and the Furniture Catalog; this is the busiest season.
  4. Winter: mine, cook, craft, and push the numbers that do not need crops.

What the festival money is for

Festival purchases are one of the few places where spending is progress. Ten buys at the Summer Festival is an achievement, and the items are cosmetic — which is fine, because the money page shows how quickly shipping income outruns any single purchase.

Seasonal animals tie directly into livestock and hunting, and the late-game gates are collected on the unlock list.
