Platforms, Steam Deck and cloud saves
Steam Deck Verified status, controller support, Steam Cloud, family sharing, and how the Steam version lines up with the PlayStation and Switch releases.
Valve lists Village in the Shade as Steam Deck Verified, with the default controller config, readable text and a performant default configuration all passing.
Village in the Shade is on PC through Steam, and it also shipped on PlayStation 5 and both Nintendo Switch models. The Steam version is the one everything on this site is written against.
Where it runs
| Platform | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Steam (Windows) | Available | The version covered here |
| Steam Deck | Verified | Default config, glyphs and text all pass |
| PlayStation 5 | Available | Console release timed to the English launch |
| Nintendo Switch | Available | Store page opened ahead of release |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Available | Separate listing from the original Switch |
| macOS / Linux | Not supported | Store lists Windows only |
Steam Deck in detail
Verified is the top rating, and each check is public:
- Default controller configuration fully functional.
- Controller glyphs match the Deck device.
- Interface text is legible.
- Default configuration is performant.
Practically: install, launch, play. The one thing to set is language — and it has to be set before you start a save, on Deck as anywhere else. The controls page walks through the Steam Properties route.
Cloud saves and sharing
| Feature | Support |
|---|---|
| Steam Cloud | Yes |
| Family Sharing | Yes |
| Remote Play on TV | Yes |
| Steam Trading Cards | Yes |
| Achievements | 52 |
| Controller support | Full, with DualShock and DualSense glyphs |
Steam Cloud matters more than usual here because save slots are precious: five rolling backups per slot since Patch 1.09, and those are local to the save. Cloud sync is what carries them between machines.
PC versus console differences
The content is the same: the same two modes, the same 52 achievements, the same patch schedule for the free updates. What differs is input and display — consoles do not have the Steam language-properties step, and the Switch versions run on hardware that cannot be compared directly with the PC spec tiers.
Which version to pick
- Steam if you want the version this site documents, mod-free but patch-current.
- Deck if you want it portable; Verified means no fiddling.
- Switch 2 if you want it on a TV without a PC.
- PS5 if you already play there and want the DualSense features the store page advertises.
